Manners

Manners

A Poem by ~ P e o n ~
"

"Mind your manners" they say.

"
Don't talk back
Keep the words inside
Don't speak the truth
And always lie

Hide your feelings
Never show
People things
They cannot know

Keep a distance
Don't get too close
Expect the worst
If you dare to hope

Be calm and collected
Throughout their pursuit
Let feelings be neglected
Then rewritten anew

They say they want excuses
Yet anger when they are told
Their words are contradicting
Due to emotions they can't control

Keep it in and
Choke it down
Paste fake smiles
On your frowns

Only say,
What you've been taught to speak
Or else you'll left
Reaping the words you weep

Do not wish
Do not yearn
Freedom is a token
You have yet to earn

Be still- silent
Always obey
Do as instructed
And you'll be okay

You're a tool, in their grasp
Waiting to be used
Though only if that is the path
Of which you should choose

Dare to rebel
And you'll be in trouble
For the pain you'll be dealt with
Will be heavily doubled

They'll try their best
To beat you down and BREAK you
But know that they cannot succeed
In trying to REMAKE you

Only you have the power
To try and make a change
And if you do, I can promise,
Your world will be rearranged

For nothing on this Earth
Can change what you believe
Only your heart can do that
And your heart will never leave

So I wrote this while I was on a rode trip thinking about my awful grandparents who try and control people with their money. Yup, that's about it. Enjoy:)
