The Greatest Lie Ever Told

The Greatest Lie Ever Told

A Poem by Skye Fields
"

I found out the hard way that I'm a Leo, but not the sun. And in this case, I couldn't make a dark person see the light.

"

Everything about it was white"

its pebbled skin, its plaster and beams,

its leather couch, its shadows.

Even you.

Vagrant chemical, you have never burst

your veins with crystal powder,

shellacked your liver in wine,

drowned a kitten, like you say you have.

You don’t light your cigarettes.

I know all this because I believe it,

because I can scrub your horoscope clean

with a pink pearl, erase your eclipse.

But after three years of imagining

the gem transfer from your tongue to mine,

after being deflowered

petal by petal on the concrete,

after tipping myself like wine

into your doorway,

you transfer space junk from your tongue to mine,

light a cigarette to rinse me from your mouth.

Everything about it was white

so I left a red handprint on your heart

and became your enemy.

Practicing for future victories,

I kissed myself in the mirror

and coughed up a pearl.

The title caught my eye, as would it should. And I believe many others have been pulled into the poem by the same.
I love the way the words flow, I didn't have to stop and reread it until I was done. Which is always nice .
You have fantastic talent, I'll be sure to read more by you. I used write poems but I seemed to have lost my touch with the art . Oh well.
Once again great job, I can't find anything wrong with this.

The greatest lie ever told is what the other said about himself, right? I love this poem, I love all of it, and i'm trying to figure out what is my favorite... Anyways, i love the way the words...flow.. I like how it says "with a pink pearl, erase your eclipse" and then says at the end "i kissed myself in the mirror///and coughed up a pearl" I can't see anything to criticize this poem about, for it is just too amazing! I also love the part about leaving a red handprint and becoming enemies.

Love this poem, it's amazing. Wonderful work. :)

Interesting. Well-written, but I really don't get it. I guess that's just me.

The title gets me wondering what is the greatest lie ever told. I get drawn to it immediantly it gets me thinking deeper about it. I think I might be able to relate to this as I am a Leo too. I strongly believe in star signs and it's good to see someone does as well. I find the the second stanza impressive and very deep. I like how you have put "Even you" in the middle of the first and second stanza. It creates a pause when the reader reads it which creates a beauutiful flow. You have used powerful words that's beyond my own imagination. I find this poem to have enlightened my mood. I thank you for that.

I love the atmosphere you gave this poem. Like the other reviewer said, it's like a riddle. Your character's mind is almost cloudy with her realization, and you can sense that in the way you wrote this. I like your metaphorical uses, and the slight rhythm that this has. You have a great writing style, and in your future pieces, it would be great to see more of it. Your character is almost lost, yet she realizes these truths at the same time. Please continue on. I'll read what you write, I can tell you that.
