The Cycle

The Cycle

A Poem by Siobhán Kiernan

Trusting someone you have known what seems like forever,
Shattered by their incestuous mistake.
Unspoken, untouched, unheard.
Pretending it never happened,
Becomes a way of life.
The inner turmoil & despair deepens
Becoming disconnected subconsciously from family & friends.
My body revolts during the night,
Like it needs to get this burden out.
I bend over the toilet bowl & have no control over the outcome.
Crying desperately wishing it would stop.
I stumble back into bed with my minty breath.
But not for long I'm sure.
