enough

enough

A Poem by SkinlessFrank

i can

still remember

when as a boy of

four or five years

i would attempt to

simplify my life

to winnow it down

to the one

or two toys

and people who

were just sufficient

just enough

to get by with

and be

content

it was a type

of conscious meditation

this minimalism

of being

and it seemed

that if I could

get it right

life would take on

the sense of

perfection

now

many years later

i find myself repeating

this dance

this jettisoning

living in a

one-bedroom A-frame

suits me

the kitchen with just

enough of counter space

for processing what comes

from the garden

the outbuildings small

and functional

a tool shed and bench

and garden shed

four acres of fields

and beech-maple woods

Mount Brock in the

distance and deer

walking under

the apple trees
