You are Not Here

You are Not Here

A Poem by Sydney

There were times
when I was sure you loved me;
there was no question in your gaze,
green eyes brimmed with emotion
I felt like the luckiest girl alive.
On cold winter nights,
when the windows fogged
and rain pounded outside,
the only sound was your breathing
and the howling wind.
You and I
were the only two in the world;
there was no doubt in your green eyes
on those nights.
You spoke to me so softly.
So lucky so lucky
to have you.
But now I sit alone in my room,
listening to the rain fall
the howling of the wind
and the sound of my own desperate breaths
as I remember cold nights
and the promise in those green eyes.
I try to let the air in and out,
but even breahing
is so much harder
when you're not here
with me.
