The Other Side Of Town

The Other Side Of Town

A Story by Skin

Tyres hiss in midnight drizzle
Tinted glass slithers down
Cigarette smoke

Menu read
No starters
basic fare

Doors open doors close
Back seat diner
leather upholstery
High class warm

Wisps of hair caught in teeth
Supper served
Cold late no garnish

Doors open doors close
Back seat diner
Pungent odour
Sad empty lonely

No farewell
No goodbye
No condom

Tyres hiss in midnight drizzle
Tinted glass slithers down
Cigarette butt

Other side of town
Personal hygiene
Kisses for sleeping kids

Back streets of town
Dirty Kleenex
Slapped for being late

wow - such precision and elaboration with such economy - you shred so many norms to pieces in this piece - like a true artist - you say more with what you leave unuttered - you stretch these silences to eons - the empty spaces get emptier - and the din fades - and then there's only that unbearable silence after the last line - it gets louder and harsher - the silence of our days and nights - drowns out the warmth - like serah says - as if it were never there
you're exceptionally gifted!! this poem is mercilessly heartbreaking - the mark of a great poet - to move the reader beyond expression - and how eloquently you do that!!!!

. that's quite a slice of contemporary life that you paint with your precise words ... brilliantly done ... and these are very finely crafted images ... people and relationships indeed have become cold and uninviting ... it's as if warmth is not just missing but as if it was never there ... we've forgotten how to feel ...
