Pay It ForwardA Poem by Sharon KimPaying forward random acts of kindness.Pay It Forward
The small tow-headed child Bestowed a sunny smile To the man dressed all in brown Who wore a gloomy frown As he walked by on his way To wait for flight delayed. The corners of his mouth did rise At the unexpected prize With a lightness in his heart It was time to do his part.
Frazzled mother with three kids Looked about to blow her lid Brother’s pulled on sister’s hair She’s shouted out, “You’re not fair!” Mother tried to break it up While the baby threw her cup. “Excuse me, is this yours? Here, I’ve found it on the floor.” The two kids stopped to stare At the man with brown suit and hair. He sat down and regaled A bold and magical tale They sat on the edge of their seats As the mother sighed with relief. A voice said, “Boarding at Gate 3.” He tipped his hat and said “That’s me!” Mother smiled her thanks at him Tucked a blanket under baby’s chin.
An elderly woman sat alone Waiting for a plane ride home. Her purse fell from her grasp Contents spilled, a broken clasp. Kleenex, mints and brush for hair She started forward in her chair The mother knelt and beat her to it Held up her hand, said “Let us do it!” Brother and sister pitched right in All was soon in its place again. The elderly woman said “Aren’t you sweet?” As the family rose to their feet. “Many thanks! I wish you well. You’ve made my day, if you couldn’t tell!” The mother beamed at daughter and son. -Pay it forward, lesson one. © 2014 Sharon KimAuthor's Note
