Inconsideration NationA Poem by Sharon KimJust a little rant about some pet peeves.
In-Consideration
Nation Oh,
that’s a shame that your car is broken, It
looks so new! What’s
that you say? Not broken? Hmm,
I thought that your blinker was broken Because
you didn’t use it when you were turning And
I was sure you saw that I was waiting for you to pass by, so I could go. “Here,
let me get that for you!” I call after
you As
you walk away from the pile of sweaters you just knocked off the fixture. I’m
surprised by the nasty look you shoot back at me As
you continue on your way. Shrugging
as I pick up the pile from the floor, I
think, ‘I was just trying to help.’ I
see you waiting to pull out onto the street. I
flash my lights and wave to you, inviting you to go ahead. You
peal out to join the line of traffic. I
look to see you nod or wave your hand in acknowledgement, But
you never even glance my way. As
the light turns yellow, you zoom through the intersection, Leaving
me behind, stopped at a red light. I
quietly say, “Would this be on your credit card today?” You
give a huff and say in annoyance into your phone, “Wait a sec.” To
me, you say, “Yes, here,” as you toss your card at me. Dismissing
me, you bring your phone back up to your red cherry lips, “Anyway,
like I was saying, you should have seen what she was wearing…” I
tune you out as I finish the transaction and bag your purchase. “Oh,
I’m sorry I interrupted your conversation…” You
flick your hand in a whatever gesture as you grab your bag and walk away. “Have
a nice day.” I call after you. Inconsideration
nation, we take much for granted, We
take what we think we are owed. We
count on others to ‘take care of things,’ And
not often enough, do we reap what we’ve sowed. © 2013 Sharon KimAuthor's Note
