Fall's Color Box

Fall's Color Box

A Poem by Sharon Kim
"

Autumn leaves

"

Fall’s Crayon Box

Summer’s swelter slips away

Slowly, sun-kissed leaves begin to change

The cool greens of summer make way for the warm colors of fall.

Like a child’s crayon box spilled over the treetops

The leaves proclaim their colors-

Maroon, Scarlet, Radical Red, Brick Red,

Outrageous Orange, Sunset Orange, Burnt Orange,

Sunglow, Dandelion, and Goldenrod.

They glow against a curtain of

Wild Blue Yonder and Purple Mountains’ Majesty

Until the flames die out, leaving

Chestnut, Burnt Sienna, and Sepia

In a pile of crisp, crumbling leaves.

Wonderfully captured the view of life of colors in strong words. I liked the concept and enjoyed the poem.

Thank you Angi!
VERY nicely done! I love the analogy to the crayon box and I am always a sucker for alliteration. This sounds wonderful when read aloud. Thank you so much.

Like a child’s crayon box spilled over the treetops...

That is exactly what it resembles! A vivid ode to autumn, Sharon!

Perhaps you have been leaf peeping in upstate NY because you captured it so well. Very descriptive write!
