To Hell With You

To Hell With You

A Poem by Sharon Kim

To Hell With You

Anxiously, I debate

Each decision that I make

Lest I rock the boat

Damned if I do, damned if I don’t

Tentatively, I choose the words I talk

Afraid to crack these shells on which I walk

Will this comment spring the trap

Causing all the eggs to crack?

I peek up at your face to see

Your eyes roll in disgust, your hypocrisy

“How can you be so stupid?  You’re an idiot!”

Your words hit me like a punch in the gut.

Once upon a time, your words would break me,

Overtake me, but now they only make me,

        STRONGER

Because of you?
In spite of you.

Because of ME!

Love the first two lines of the final stanza where the piece speeds up as a read and leads directly to the punch of "stronger". Well crafted there.
The sense of inner strength based upon having suffered and the sense of defiance come through loud and clear. Very nicely done.

Thanks Krystle!. (I like the new pic! :) )
Helluva rant here and the words sting... the whole verse is yelling out... this is definitely one for venting... clear and present... one bites back with these words...

More power to you. I have felt so many lines have been crossed to warrant this rant and steam...Well penned...:)

Walking on eggshells is no way to live! This is a right of empowerment. Take your power.....no one should be able to call you stupid. Certainly this poem proves you are quite the opposite! Well written. Lydi**

Empowered and empowering. When people drain you of your joy and worth, it is time to stand strong.

This is well expressed, great flow with excellent metaphors.

Indeed, it is about mindset, but to be able to change it one usually has to have had some personal lines crossed. And then the epiphany: you have the power, you are in charge of you. Love this, Sharon. Thanks for sharing!
