ChildhoodA Poem by Sharon KimMemories from my childhoodChildhood Those were such simple days Innocent in many ways In a small town neighborhood On a street named Wrenwood After breakfast head outside Not back home until noontide Playing in the summer sun All the kids are out for fun Down the street, round the bend, Chasing, riding with a friend Bikes our horses, faithful steeds Yours will follow, mine will lead Through the cornfield to the woods Find a rope swing; think we should? Across the brook, flying free Suspended from a big oak tree Next up, swimming in the pool ‘Til our bodies are all cool Marco
Polo, hear you call Fish out
of water! Cannonball! Pixie sticks and red wax lips Italian ice from corner store trips Lemonade stands, fifty cents per cup Drinking all the profits up Games of baseball on the street Kick the can, play hide and seek After dinner, back outside Streetlights are on, it’s night time Another day has come to an end Next morning it will start again I long for those carefree days When life was filled with simpler ways. © 2013 Sharon KimFeatured Review
