A Halloween trick

"

It’s the 31st of October, 6:30PM, and there are a couple kids out trick or treating this Halloween. A small four seater car pulls up on a driveway. A young couple in their 20s, George and Mira, have been busy the whole month due to work. They hadn’t got the time to make a costume for a Halloween party they have to attend due to a bet they made because their friends joke about how they don’t have lives outside of work. George wraps himself in toilet paper to suggest going to the party as a low effort mummy, but this ticks Mira off because she wants them to look presentable to their friends and the rest of the party. George goes to the kitchen to find something he can use for blood on his clothes to try going out as a zombie. Mira is frustrated because she really wants a good costume for the Halloween party. She opens her closet, and sorts through her clothes, throwing them out behind her one after the other. She’s realizing there’s not enough time to make a good looking costume.

Not sure what to do, she goes to the bathroom and looks at her face in the mirror. While thinking what she can do with her face, maybe put some makeup on, as she glances over her makeup kit by the sink.

She stares again at her face in the mirror, thinking and thinking. Until she starts seeing distortions in her face, slowly, her eyes start to appear on different ends on her face. Her mouth rotates vertically and slides off to her forehead. Her nose turns yellow and her nostrils enlarge comically. Mira laughs a little bit while she witnesses this in the mirror. She exits the bathroom to call George.

George comes into the bathroom to see what the fuss is all about and gets startled at the sight of Mira’s face. Mira looks confused by his reaction. George snaps a picture of her face and shows it to her. Mira screams and slips on the floor in the toilet. She falls down backwards and hits her elbow on the toilet seat. She gets up, with her arm supported by the toilet seat.

George then thinks about the situation and says how now she doesn’t really need a costume looking like that. Mira agrees and because of this tries to convince George to also distort his face. They argue for a bit, but Mira eventually succeeds in pressuring him by asking him if he really loved her. George eventually does try to distort his face. He looks into the bathroom mirror and slowly, he starts seeing his face take shape as a red gorilla.

The time of the party turns up and Mira and George have just arrived at the party. They’re getting looks from people, hearing some people talk about how freaky and real their costume looks. Some people giggling, and some looking surprised. They eventually meet up with their friends. Some of their friends look horrified and choke on their drink upon seeing Mira, and some comment on how good their costumes look. Some of them whisper behind Mira and George’s back after they head over to another spot.

A surprise costume contest then starts to take place out of nowhere. The announcer says it’s better to have a surprise contest, because it’s more interesting that way. Mira then gets pushed by her friends and George to step up for the contest, so she goes along with it. The top three contenders end up being Mira, a girl with a succubus costume, and a guy in a detailed angel costume. The host of the contest then asks people to cheer for each one of them, the one with the loudest cheers being the winner.

Mira doesn’t want to win because she’ll have to end up explaining that her face isn't fake, so she starts looking slightly distressed and cheerful, trying to hide her true feelings. And it finally happened, she eventually became the winner. After winning, the host gives her the microphone and asks if she has any words. She holds the mic firmly and admits the truth.

“Hi everyone, um.. I’m glad you all like my ‘costume’, the truth is this isn’t actually elaborate makeup. I really look like this because I stared at myself in the mirror, so I shouldn’t be winning. I hope you all can understand.”

The audience gasps, and after a few seconds, someone else in the crowd also admits to having a distorted face, and then another person, and another. It turns out having a distorted face from the mirror is quite common.
