Crystal clear Pacifying the desperation of comfort A friend A companion Lying face up, every night On the pillow beside me Sifting through the memories Or creating unforeseen nightmares As they wish But they never leave me alone
Lies, all lies Am I that wise? Wise enough to read The unintended meanings Between all the hidden lines
Lies, all lies Should I be surprised? To find no grain of truth In all your perfect smiles
Lies, all lies Your manipulation device Underneath the smooth surface Is there a jagged bed of vice?
Lies, all lies Yet, you fantasize That I will get caught in the same web twice
We do sometimes want to believe what we want to at times. Reality always has a way of smacking you in the face though. This is done with great wording and it continued to the end of the poem. The last stanza is profound and wow trying to catch someone lying twice...makes you think.
Ouch, I have lived this. It is not an easy thing to go through. I really like the way you set this up, with the person lying next to you, that you know you can't trust, but want to. That is what it is really about isn't it? That we WAN'T to trust them. You are right, it is about what we want to believe. Very nicely said, my friend. A very hard piece for me to read but very worth it.
