Pretension

Pretension

A Poem by Enigma
"

Experimental.

"
Let us be fools and that is what we will remain
Living off idyllic delusions

Of a life that could be

Should be

But never will be

Let us be fools and remind ourselves to smile

Dig out a skeletal memory of happiness

Which once breathed

In those unreal times

Pretend that all is well

Like it ever was

And will be

Forever more

Pretend to love

Pretend to live

Would you care for a dead man's affection?

The last line is so powerful.
A thought provoking poem.
Great work.

I like this... a temptation to adorn old memories in order to find new feelings of happiness... the memory gets a little tattered and threadbare and the holes get stitched with new thread to keep it functional as long as possible.

The last line highlighted like that caught me by surprise. ^^* It actually made me go back and read the poem over again. Greatly done.
