I am what I am

I am what I am

A Story by Enigma
"

A thought that I have been tossing around in my mind since a long time.

"
If I’m happy, I’m an escapist
Ignorant of the coarse reality
If I’m sad, I’m ungrateful
For all the gifts life blessed me with
If I’m proud of myself, I’m vain
Living with a delusional image of self
If I’m humble, I’m a pessimist
Not ready to believe that the glass can be half full
Or note a silver lining on the dark thundering clouds
Not courageous or skilled enough
To use my talents right

If I love someone, its infatuation
If I hate someone, it’s a biased perception
If I have chosen a path with my own faculties of mind
I’m an over-confident, narrow-minded wretch
If I rely upon suggestions, I’m labeled a mindless cripple
Another blank face in a wide sea of faces as blank as mine

If I make myself a priority, I’m selfish
If I neglect my being, I suffocate
If I try to please you, I’m a flatterer
If I mind my own life, I’m an egoist
If I call out for help, I’m a coward
If I trust my strengths, I’m unrealistic
If I cry, my tears are termed fake
If I don’t, I’m insensitive
If I express my feelings, I’m talkative
If I can’t my thoughts to words, I’m an introvert
If I enquire about you, I intrude upon your life
If I let you be, I don’t care
If I live among the stars, I’m fantastical
If I stay rooted to the ground, I’m mentally dead
With no dreams to brighten up the darkness
That presides over my existence

If I say “I Love You”, I mean it
Believe it
If I say “I Hate You”, I do
Accept it

Some people in life can never be pleased
Perfection, though distant, resides here in my heart
Where the only one who matters the most
Is Me

I give love for the care that I get
I give hate for the contempt that I’m shown
Nothing held back or taken for granted

Love me for what I am
Or hate me because I will never be like you
No more will I shape my life to become your clone
Wasting my warm tears on a heart, cold and dead, that never did beat
Guess, I ran out of patience and hope
For you to be proudly pleased

But some people in life can never be pleased
Perfection, though distant, resides here in my heart
Where the only one who matters the most
Is Me

Amazing piece, reminds me of how twisted the world seems to be. Loved this. Good job!

This poem is astounding! I really liked the first 3 verses. This really captures the paradox of life. Damn you, you steal the words and feelings out of my mind and write poems! I wanted to write this poem...haha - Very good work.
