The Wings, They Grow Back Again

The Wings, They Grow Back Again

Born and raised a princess

Sprinkling the fairy dust around

With innocent smiles and infectious laughter

The dreaded disease of joy and ease

Can you see her fragile wings?

With all the uncared worries

And impossible dreams

She lives, not barely breathes

But soon the fairy dust

Loses the charm it had

And the worries seem to take their toll

The refuge disappears

And supporting pillar of self

Crumbles slowly but inevitably

For one brimming with life

Suddenly finds herself in a glass maze

With jagged edges of reality check

No more are the dreams at her hand’s length

She can see them

But her wounds bleed too much

And she sighs and embraces dejection

For the first time

Searching for an identity

But surely not her own

A glossy one shared by many

Adorned with the false pretences

Of knowledge

And feigning power

Over one’s mind

She accepts that

If only for the momentary acceptance

By people who won’t turn to look at her twice

The stink of her rotting core

Is completely ignored

Suppressed beyond recognition

Her dreams and desires

That define her and make her whole

Cutting off her pretty wings

Letting go of a vision held dearer than life

Saying good-bye with a lone tear in the eye

And as the petals started to fall

Like the autumn leaves

Taking their yearly ride on the back of the cold wind

A pair of hands, emerge out of nowhere

Scattered as they are, the fragments are collected

She never believed in magic

And yet she found in him, her healer

How her withered soul revived

Sprung back to life

What was it that in his presence

All the garbs of pretensions melted away

The walls cracked and he shined through

Brighter than the sun

How could it be, that

Drinking in his passion for her

She started to love herself back

The mirror was not a foe anymore

And the transparent jagged edges

Could no more reach her tender heart

He showed her the stars

And she found her lost dreams

He pointed out the jewels

Dusting off the many layers of past

He found her

To crown her his queen

She can feel the wings grow back again…

A very nice ending to a very good story. I like how you made the Angel learn pain and life to feel the sadness of losing her wings. The description was very strong. I like the positive ending to the outstanding poem.

The first half reminded me of growing up, with fairy dust and magic. The glass maze reminded me of teenage years just trying to figure things out. The second half became sort of like a fairy tale all on its own, love breaks the spell. I loved this. Really it was a fantastic poem.

Aww. Great story with a nice ending. I loved how it was filled with sadness in the beginning and ended sweetly. Like a romeo and juliet type thing. Beautifully written, as always.
