Reflections of Sorrow

Reflections of Sorrow

A Poem by Enigma
"

An outpour.

"

When I face the mirror

I see more than just my image.

There are reasons hidden in the blood shot eyes;

There is sorrow in the streaks

Created by the tears

That dried on their own

Waiting to be wiped;

There is pain in the sickly gaze

That rests on me

Resonant with the cries

That drowned in the dark;

There is hopelessness

In the heart that beats but would rather not;

Surviving each day

For someone, far away

Absorbing all the thorns of blame

People greet me with.

I was once lonesome

Now, I hate the crowded company of the world

Won’t you rather be alone

Than face the darker side of yourself, fake or real

As others force it down your ears and eyes

I see that girl and her reluctance

To be a full grown woman

Will that mean letting go of the single refuge she possesses?

I want to go inside the world of reflections

And console her suffering soul

Maybe because no one else will.

This makes me think deeply on humanity as a whole. We are so busy with our own lives that many times we are unsympathetic to those around us. We miss the lack of gleam that once sparkled in someone's eye the half smile replacing the once vibrant one that lit up the whole room. How much time does it reach out to our fellow man and lend an ear? This is food for thought.
