My true selfA Poem by EnigmaIf I do have a soul With unproven existence Or maybe it is my conscience A strange feeling A voice, springing out of nothing Telling me things ignored, neglected, left out It has taken the shape of a child A little girl I owe my highest allegiance to her To keep her happy To keep the smile forever shining on her face To console her and tell her that I love her immensely Is my duty She is me. I am her. We are one. And yet, we are not. She has forsaken every mask or disguise that I create Ignored every flaw, every lie, every crime To have her love me Every single moment Is a hidden bliss But not anymore I will open my arms wide Wide enough for her Embrace her Tell her that she’s a true beauty A miracle of nature And that no one can take her place Her uniqueness exists and makes me love her even more She’s compassionate, kind Humorous, generous Understanding every need, ever emotion of mine Never demanding a reason or justification I call her my true friend If only I could love her equally I would finally come to terms with life. © 2011 EnigmaAuthor's Note
