A poisonous emotion

An effort to describe what 'anger' feels like.

What is anger?

 

A slow poison, for one

It attacks your mind

Eats it

Negates your reasoning

Corrupts it

Things, people, emotions, feelings

They all lose their meaning

All that is left

Is rage

Translated as immense unguided energy

That usually destructs

Than create.

 

A curtain

Which is pulled over your eyes

Till every friend is foe

And every foe is still a foe

You, still a loner

No friendly soul in sight

And everyone seems to be conspiring against you

Your happiness

Your peace

Gradually, this dark curtain

Shrinks around you and solidifies

Turns into bare walls

Confining you and your negativity

In one small space

You fight it with half strength

But you anticipate your defeat

And there you are

Sitting on the floor

All by yourself

In a dark corner

With burning eyes

 

That is anger.

It blinds you

Transforms you into an animal

Mad, outraged

Left with nothing but guilt and remorse

And scars of havoc

That will never fade

True, anger can cause all this when bitterness and vengeance are mixed in our mind. Though I onced believed like you did; that anger is a horrible emotion, it is necessary - but one needs not reject it but hone it; to intelligently mitigate change, fight for injustices, speak for those that are too weak and cannot speak for themselves. Anger mixed with a power trip of domination is what you speak of.

I have felt anger like this. The challenge for me was in learning to use that energy and turn it into something good, something that would allow me positive movement forward in life. Thank you for expressing something that I for one, feel and have felt.

A very true and heartfelt poem. Really captures the tragic side of anger.

The only thing I would change is the last two lines of the first stanza:

"That usually destructs
Than create."

should probably instead be something like:

"That usually destroys
Rather than creates"

for grammatical reasons :P
