Real Mom

Real Mom

A Poem by Enigma
"

A new concept for me...

"

My mom is different

My mom is unusual

I've tried and tried, but in vain

To understand her

Her actions bring tears to my eyes

Her words tear my heart apart

Her gazes push me into hell

I don't know why she does all this...

She pin-points my flaws out

But never really appreciates

When I'm feeling on top of the world

She pulls me back, down to earth

I ask her why?

She never really answers back

She hates them all

My family...me...

Atleast, that's how I see it

She shows sympathy to old people

Who live in old age homes

But prohibits me from getting close to my own grandpa

She says that I should be more helpful

But hates it when I take care of my sick aunt

She never really cared about my home, my family

But doesn't like it that I do

But it's not her fault, is it?

No...it's mine

I have more faults than she can tolerate

I always let her down

I never made her proud

But I tried to...

Yes! I did...

She has left me alone in these most crucial moments

When I need her the most

When I feel so weak, so vulnerable

But who'd care for someone like me?

So I've made myself an imaginary 'mom'

No one can see or hear her, but me

And, guess what?

She's the best Mom ever

She pats me on the back...

    ...even when I don't succeed

She appreciates all my efforts

She hugs me everytime she sees me

She gets angry when I don't behave

(But when she's around, I never misbehave)

In the night, I sleep listening to her sweet talks

She's someone I share all my secrets with

She's someone who cares for me

She's someone I like more than my 'real' mother herself

Now she's calling me to sleep

Even though it's way past mid-night

She still doesn't mind

Coz' she knows me

I can sense her arms around me

As I sit on my bed and write this poem

She frowns at the beginning

...but smiles at the ending

She has started her sweet lullaby

And her heavenly voice is filling up the room

My eyes are getting heavy

I put my pen down

And cuddle right next to her

She slowly pats on my head

Before I drift into my sound sleep

Four words escape my lips...

...'I love you, Mom.'...

A friend of mine Mysteral requested me to read this, and I am so glad he did.
This poem is all about me and the life I myself had with my mom. It's scary how
much I see myself through your words. I have felt all these things and more.
I haven't had a "imaginary" mom, but being a mom now to my daughter I give her
what I felt and still feel that I never got from my own mom. I am so glad I
read this. This is a wonderfully written poem that truly touched me deeply.

The style of writing is a little different to other examples of your work, but so full of feeling and emotion, it's a riveting read. Your words in the poem mean so much to me as the first part is so descriptive of my own mother. I grew up resenting her attitude, so perhaps I can understand a little of how you feel.

As a poem, I would not dare to try to find fault. To me, it's perfect, No! more than just perfect.

Aww this is so sad...imaginary mother...poor baby=( Well this is a very touching piece.
You crafted together so well all to often the bitter relationship between a mother and child. I'm sorry for your real strain..it is very painful I'm sure. Being a parent is a gift as well as a big responsibility. Sadly so many directly effect the lives of their children in a not so much a positive way. This poem makes us more aware of that.
Very thought provoking write. Powerful concept..wonderful job=)

I can only completely agree with Poeticpiers, he's absolutely right. Perfect mom's as perfect humans don't exist. Everyone has his good sides and the lesser good ones. We should always try to see the good one's because they are there even if one cannot always see them at first sight. Perhaps if you'd try as hard for your real mom as you do for your surrogate mom to be a good daughter and being - who knows perhaps it could change her attitude as well. If we want a change in others we always have to start by ourselves. Let's see if you'd try really hard if she'd not change too. Don't expect a big change immediately - give it some time ...

Your piece to me is brilliantly done!
While reading one gets the feeling and impression of hearing a young girl telling all these things . It has the exact timing in rhythm and blues. Very image and emotion provoking piece!
I love it!

KUDOS!!!
