Jack - The friendly ghost

Jack - The friendly ghost

A Story by Enigma
"

A funny story...

"

"AAAARRRRGGGGHHHH!!!!!!", and she ran out of the house.I shouted back at her to come back but she won't even turn to face my house.Who would??

My name is Maria and I've recently moved into this place known as Snow-ville.Irony is that it hasn't snowed since ages here. But the residents don't mind it.I live with Stephie. He's is the most loving, caring, undrstanding and adorable thing you'll ever meet. He's so cute that I can cuddle him to death.

We go out every evening into a nearby park to play ball.Oh! You didn't realise it?Stephie is my pet dog.But he's as important as anyone else in my family.

Now coming back to the scream. No, it wasn't becoz' of Stephie. No, it wasn't becoz' of me either. It was becoz' my neighbour had met or rather felt Jack.Jack is the name of the ghost who lives with me.Now don't be scared.Just keep reading.he's not standing behind you.

Jack used to live here before he...ummm...died.In his effort to save a cat that was stuck on a nearby tree, he himself fell down and broke his neck. And the cat?? It jumped down from what seemed like two-storey tall tree and walked away unharmed.Earlier he used to be a kind and funny man.Now he's the same, just a bit transparent and able to fly.He won't go away. And I don't want him to.He's great around the house. He helps me with everything, from cleaning to advising me on my dress.Explains why I'm known as the most sylish person around my office.

And my neighbour, who is never coming back here, ever, is Samantha Beutchmanz. She is...used... to be a persistent visitor here before Jack took her place. Now, she won't even dare to look here, even from the window of her house.

Why am I talking about all this? Becoz' you need to know something about ghosts. No, didn't do any research on the topic nor have I interviewed any ghost.I'm telling my experience which is worth knowing...reading.

Think about ghosts and the first thing that comes to your mind is the screming victim who's caught in the vicious hands of a spirit who wants to take over its body.Or maybe a few images of uneartly fogs and lights in the dark, something like that.

But it's not at all like that in here.A little secret, Jack, himself is scared of ghosts.I tried telling him that he himself was a ghost and one ghost can't harm another ghost. But he won't listen.

One day I told him that there was a ghost in my house. His eyes went wide and I could easily see the beads of sweat on his forehead.Seconds later he started shivering. It was later that he found out that I was talking about him.Gosh! Ever heard a ghost blushing?

I never feel that he isn't human.Except for the times he vanishes and walks through walls or flies, he looks like any other normal, human guy.

I like cracking ghostly jokes and pranks on Jack.Ok! now I know that this is a bit off the topic, but it's funny. Here's my favourite

that I always put up to him.

"Hey Jack! Do you know what one ghost asks the other ghost?"

"Hmm..."

"Do youy believe in humans?"

And I'd fall down laughing and though he has heard it all before a thousand times, he'd give me his oh-so-cute smile which seems as if saying, 'yeah! funny!'

People think my dog is crazy, mad, genius, alien and what not.Have you ever seen a dog doing maths?Or playing alone with his fris-bee?

Or let's talk simpler, have you ever seen a dog going for a walk on his own and not straying away from the dirt path? I can bet, you haven't.

Well, that's my Stephie....with the company of Jack.He regularly takes Stephie out for a walk and the dog never disobeys him.And it never obeys me.

I'll say,"Jack! Sit down." And he'll run away from me.

Jack will say,"Sit boy.", and he'll sit without any other action.

Jack enjoys when people stare at the dog as if it was something unnatural.Well, it sure is.They don't see Jack commanding him, all they see is a dog who's.....not normal....way too obedient.

Apart from all this, Jack also takes care of the security of my house. He may be a scardy-cat, but when it coms to protecting my place, he turns into 'Rambo'.Lolz...

I remember the first and the only time a thief dared to enter my house. He was frantically running away minutes later. In the morning, I found gifts on my bed."Happy Birthday!", Jack said."I rubbed my eyes and replied, "It's not my birthday!"."Umm..In that case, Happy Monday!!" And we both started laughing.

I eagerly started opening up the presents and at the same time asking him from where he had got all this.He replied that a friend of his came and gave it all to him last night.I was still confused but all my doubts vanished away when I saw those beautiful earings and necklaces and watches.I yelled like a young girl getting her first barbie. At once, I got up and hugged him.

(You'll say, how can you hug a ghost? Well, Jack has this power to materialize whenever he wants. So, that answers your question!! )

But befor all that, Jack is my friend.Whenever I need someone to talk to, he'll drop out of no where. He'll hear me and understand me better than anyone else. And at times when Itold him that I felt bad about myself, he'd convince me that I'm the greatest girl he had ever met his whole life. That made me feel really good.

So, that's Jack - The scardy cat. That's what I call him.He hates the word but he can't stop me from saying that.

He's there whenever I need him.

If I need someone to get lost, I'll let Jack to do some scaring.

If I need some cake, he'd fly it out from my neighbour's kitchen.

If I need a pillow fight, he'd materialize and will deliberately lose.

He's Jack...a friendly ghost.

A wonderful story, very amusing, but also much truth behind it.

"Think about ghosts and the first thing that comes to your mind is the screming victim who's caught in the vicious hands of a spirit who wants to take over its body."

Very true. From my (genuine) experience with the paranormal, the fear is only in the mind of the "screming victim" [screaming] who doesn't understand ghosts.

Back to the writing, I love the opening line, really hooks the reader's attention. I feel that so much more could be written about Jack, perhaps you may consider turning this into a novel or novella at some stage. Well done, your writing really impresses me.
