Ode to myself

Ode to myself

A Poem by Enigma
"

About the fire that burns within each one of us.

"

The darkness of the still night

Tries settling over me

But I fight back with all my might

I try setting my soul free

I want to let others know

That a fire burns within me

And soon it'd grow

Into a monstrous size

If you don't think so

I say, it's not wise

You don't see my determination

You only hear my helpless cries

But I'm full of inspiration

And it'll never die

Nor will my aspirations

The darkness is there, so is the silence

But the light in me brightens it all

and guides me all the way through

I tried this new form of poetry. This type of poem is called an 'ODE' due to it's unique rhyme scheme.I read a poem titled 'Ode to the West Wind' written by Percy Bysshe Shelley which inspired me to write an ode myself. As usual, I faced problem in figuring out a decent title for my poem. How is it? Any suggestions for the title???

i dont see what's wrong with ode to myself; it is what it is!

"I try setting my soul free

I want to let others know

That a fire burns within me"

that was my favorite. gosh can we writers relate. it's a constant struggle to keep the fire burning, and to have the courage to show our fire to other people... and trust them not to try and douse it

As I read this beautiful poem, I was reminded of my recent reread of Virginia Woolf's
To the Lighthouse. The best read since I decided to try writing poetry after retiring.
My early interest in poetry began when my English teacher in grade twelve read
Emily Dickinson to us. I believe she has no equal in her poetry efforts. Reading and
rereading gives me immense joy. Reading is the primary avenue to good writing.
V. Woolf would have loved "I want to let others know
that a fire burns within me"
Keep writing, you know how....sam

Very nicely done. It's always fun to try a new style of writing. You did a great job. I actually like the title as is. Dunno, has a nice ring to it.. :)

I like what you have done with one - especially as it is your first try at this style of writing.

It is always exciting to try new styles so bravo on your attempt here.
As for the title - I think what you have chosen fits well - your only other choice could be "An Ode to Me"

Cheers

Ode to Me? perhaps? otherwise its a great effort for your first ode and certainly worth trying other forms of poetry till you find your favourites. Great work as always :)
