Artifice

Artifice

A Poem by Stephen
"

I wrote this when I was 16. I hope you like it 🫶🏽

"

Your fervid schemes

My precognitive dreams

Our ripped up seams

This has broken me down

Your golden name

My silver chain

Our bronze terrain

Graphite has overcome our skies

Our crashing plane

Your vacillating blame

The cycled thought train

You have unraveled my kingdom undone

I gazed at the skyline begging, “Lady Fate please don’t shatter our fallen art  into pieces.”

Your dying love is the only artifice I believe in

I don’t want any other happiness but you

No other sadness in the world would do.

You knew I left a part of me back in the war

You knew a part of me broke when we recall our drift from shore

You knew it still hurt underneath when I forced myself to trek on

You knew my weakness so I let you leave your mark

You knew it was never fair so why’d you taunt me with the scores

You knew how much I feared to lose the light in my sight and heart Like how they left me before

But what you did left me just as dark

Our crumbling unity is the only fate they’d believe in

You knew a ring could never promise what was impossible from the start

You knew I’d break when the sun and moon were split apart as I watched from afar

But all you did was trace the scars
