Disobedience

Disobedience

A Poem by Merle Van Dee

I can't obey,
The ways of life we live.
It kills more than any war,
Without a drop of my crimson blood.
There's another animal within these decrepit bones,
Begging for a freedom this world,
She could never offer.
Begs to feel your skin against mine:
The blissfulness of life's sins.
A desire to walk on uncharted lands,
And if no such lands exist,
Trod all the roads less traveled.
"One love, one life,"
An idiots anthem.
I've lost count of my loves and past lives.
The way is reckless and wild,
With little regard for our plans.
Day-by-day: live
Night-to-night: love.
Otherwise you'll be another cog in the machine,
We are damned to be.
I'd sell a damned life with grace above
For a real, daring life here.
I'll take my chances in Hell.
