Chasing Rainbows

Chasing Rainbows

A Poem by S

I catch glimpses of color sometimes

For a few moments the fog lifts and the world looks brand new. A kaleidoscope of rainbow colors.

The sky looks brighter and my laugh feels lighter. I lift my head to the sky and the sun smiles back.

Yellow welcomes me with all its warmth

The grass and the trees whisper their secrets in my ears as the wind blows. Almost like we’re old friends.

Green hugs me as the wind whispers I love you

The moon and the stars lay with me until I fall asleep. Their glow a calming lullaby. I can finally rest.

Blue wraps me in a blanket of comfort

As I fall asleep the fog returns. Gray clouds fill the sky. Everything is still. Cold. A piercing silence.

The sun doesn’t smile, the trees don’t whisper and the night doesn’t bring rest.

My laugh feels heavy, like an empty echo. I try to make it fill the sky hoping to catch a glimpse of light through the clouds. Maybe eventually the echo will part the clouds and lift the fog.

Until then I’ll just keep chasing rainbows
