Dreams

Dreams

A Poem by Siobhan Welch
"

I'll never see.

"

It's a wondrous happy occasion.

The entire extended family joins in.

Everyone at the height of expectation.

All the students, embarking on.

Their lives optimistic, full of hope.

Success is every other word.

But my planet was totally different.

No one from my non-family sat in.

I would have been shocked if they had.

I had a 7 AM waitress shift waiting for me.

Following my daughter's commencement,

she returned to the house for a moment

To get the title to the car we had promised.

After that, we didn't see her much.

My son, with his genius IQ and his

Total social retardation,

Squeaked in at the end of summer school.

After tutoring advanced calculus

without ever having taken the course

to graduate with the misfits in the hood.

I changed my clothes a half-dozen times.

I looked in the mirror and hated myself.

I want the gutter world to end with me.

Your writing draws me in and I am right there. It is so honest and your voice is unique and clear. You write the material of a survivor.
