Bone

Bone

A Poem by Siobhan Welch
"

Stripped to the bone, the truth is revealed.

"

Now,

that all the flesh has been picked away,

and every wound cauterized by fire,

the bare bone is laid square, to be seen.

To be found wanting.

Do you know me now,

my bones laid square, visible, inspectable?

The every detail that caused an action

Through centuries of time in my mind?

Can you really say you know?

It doesn't matter anymore.

I can see, my bones laid bare.

Returning to dust is the only path.

My uterus filled it's needed function

But no other part of me did.
