It's Not You; It's Me

It's Not You; It's Me

A Poem by Siobhan Welch
"

Forever and a day, that is the mantra.

"

Your soul, your smile, bright and shining.

No matter.

Light and kindness and tender mercy

Radiating from those delicate eyes,

Their pure sweet love overflowing.

I believe.

I have no doubt.

You see -

It's not you; it's me.

Nothing can remove my defects.

Now I know; the purest of angels has tried.

The most pefect heart born of man

Gave to me, the least deserving,

And I still could not step outside.

Because it's me.

Beautifully written poem dripping with a deep emotions and obvious pain. I feel the agony you speak as it washes over me in waves of sorrow as though it were my own pain. For me to see the pain you speak tells me I have my own deep pain, for I would not be able to recognize your pain if I had none. The converse is also true; your lovely words, "Light and kindness and tender mercy Radiating from those delicate eyes...", are evidence that the same qualities do exist within you. You cannot recognize in another that which is absent in you. Take heart and hope as your own gifts.
