Innocence

Innocence

A Poem by Siobhan Welch
"

Angels and demons - a dog and a man.

"

He was brown, and that's all I knew of him.

It's all I'll ever know.

I never saw the angel's face,

but I felt his soul flow through me

as he wings so painfully

touched my battered cheek.

Before my eyes, never suspecting

and my mother's eyes, so frail and pure.

A demon, pretending to be human

in his uniform - serve and protect.

Shown himself to me, completely

The face of evil, one more time.

How many times, I wonder

must the God within me

place these demons in my path

before I, the flesh and blood

weak and timid, fearful child

Stand up and strike.
