Fear

Fear

A Poem by Siobhan Welch
"

Please don't make a lover out of him.

"

Fear was my partner.

He told me what pills to take

And I sought out pseudo-healers

Who gave amply.

And the fear and his pills

Kept me company

In exchange for a life

That never was.

When the eyes of life

Looked into mine,

A world ago,

I chose fear

And his pills.

I knew them both

And fear told me

He would keep me safe.

And warm.

And dead.
