Between another place and here

Between another place and here

A Poem by Siobhan Welch

Empty prairie sky full of possibilities.

Naw, I could never go through with

A single one of those things.

Mountain ranges, oceans roaring,

A life I used to know.

A life I never met.

A life who makes me an offer

That I can refuse, but don't wanna.

Because I'm addicted to the s**t.

The pain, the heartbreak,

The passive-aggressive

Double barrel shotgun on the shelf.

The lack of a kind word

Thrown in my direction,

Purposefully refused on grounds

Of something I never knew.

Between another place and here

I saw how the miracles happen.

They just float without direction,

Tumbling from one day to the next.

And the people and the miracles

Blend together as if always thus.

I opened my mouth and took a breath.

That was my first mistake.
