And it turns

And it turns

A Poem by Siobhan Welch

Tough spot at the moment.

Can't even buy a big Bud Ice.

The proverbial turn on a dime

Done hit me, unexpected like.

Life does that now and again

And I can cope and deal,

Scrounge and sell stuff

And make a few pretty things.

I am never prepared,

mentally, emotionally, spiritually,

For those who claim to love me

To turn on me, on a dime.

To dispense with their children,

Toss aside their beasts of comfort,

And delve, wholeheartedly

Into selfcenteredness extraordinaire.

My refusal to believe this is happening,

The same as a zillion times before,

Leaves me standing, wide-eyed and speechless,

At the loss of the human soul.
