Never Fails

Never Fails

A Chapter by Sins

The soft light of the phone in her hands shone onto her bed sheets and her pale arms, giving off the only light in the pitch black room. Her eyes strayed from the bright screen as she traced the light down her wrist until the shadows took over. Her hazel orbs locked in place as she caught sight of the faint lines of her old scars, slightly paler than the rest of her skin. The marks were signs of her failure; realizing the security of a friend, the acceptance of her life, the injustice of youth and influence of want. She had failed herself, even. She'd given up on her being herself and on the world as it was. The marks were a failure to their respective purpose, now a reminder of the naive and just plain stupid past she had.
The girl closed her eyes from the scars, the usual overwhelming of dread rushing its way through her. She had to contact Blade. Unlike her, he never failed-- no matter what, the boy was always able to comfort her whether he knew it or not. Blade was a constant to her, someone she had always been able to count on. Blade. Sunshine. Kitty. The three of them together was her whole world, while she was their moon. They'd been able to pull her back to Earth just when she'd felt she was going to float away. They were her gravity, though they never let her fall. Tears adjoined Fire’s face as her small message was received.

 Blade?
-What is it? It's late, you know. What's up?-

A small sigh released from Fire as she read his response. Her heart still raced, and her hands shook slightly as she tried to control her breathing, yet a sad smile formed on her lips. Yes, he was still there, ever constant. Tired tears slid down her face, burning trails of heat down her cheeks.

You're right, time for sleep.
-Sleep is for the weak. I'll stay up with you, don't worry.-

Fire’s head fell to her pillow, one hand covering her face as she tried to wipe away her tears. More came, but Fire was unable to stop the onslaught of emotion she felt as they flowed. Her arms and legs throbbed terribly where she had once cut herself, and she slowly curled up into the fetal position as she worked on trying to calm herself down.

-It's not your fault. Everyone has problems.-
 Mhm. And what are yours?
-I'm too smart and handsome for my own good.-

An unexpected laugh erupted from the girl, breaking her torrent of sniffles and cries. Never failed, Blade always managed to see through her even from the thousands of miles of distance between them.

Constants are what keeps a life going, a heart beating and a mind thinking. Without a constant, the world would be full of disarray and chaos, so I am glad that, in this story, Fire has found her constant, because fire can be put out and she needs a spark like her friends to keep her going, thanks for sharing :D
