Reality's Fiction

Reality's Fiction

A Poem by R.J Calzonetti (SinisterPotatoe)
"

A bit of my understanding on a topic I find quite interesting.

"

The discrepancy between fiction and our reality

Isn’t so vast, or different, or opposite at all

Both have unimaginable depth(s) that remain mostly unknowns

One could easily see one for the other

Like being deep underwater

One would not know the difference

Between up and down

Sunlight, or darkness

Perhaps the two extremes of the horseshoe

Are almost identical or connected

There is a closeness

Between imaginary and real

As both feed off each other in some way

And play off what is lacked most,

Possibly, understanding it all

Reality and imagination

Are sometimes both

Unknowable, indistinguishable

Unmistakably vivid and powerful

All-encompassing in their mystery

And bound by the chains of their truth

Endlessly stretching with questions and answers

That lead to more questions, and answers

Free (of), yet structured by them

An endless city of meaning

Stretching beyond what we can reach

This was great. Hints of The Matrix and echoes of alternative realities. It takes a brilliant mind to make that quantum leap, I think. C.S. Lewis and his fabled Narnia or JRR Tolkien and his hobbits or more recently, JK Rowling and Harry Potter. When a world is fully imagined it sort of takes on a life of its own. One of the most fabulous novels I've read that isn't so popular as an institution was Imagica by Clive Barker; terrifying but gripping. I read the entirety in a single day snowed in at my apartment years ago. The second picture from the top makes me think of HP Lovecraft and the Necronomicon. The cthulhu cometh! Thanks for the thought inspiring read, I enjoyed! F.

I agree with you that fiction and reality are so closely linked; when one writes a piece, whether it be a poem or a novel, there is some reality in that piece even if it is called fiction; it is inevitable that our lives are entwined in fiction and reality and we can question both....which make it a mysterious observation...
This subject calls for a great debate!!!
Well done

You made a really good point, there is really only a thin line between reality and fiction, you said it well. Keep writing and goodluck.

P.s it's now one of my favourite pieces that i've read.

Thank you, glad you enjoyed this work. :)
I totally agree with this as i believe that reality is also quite infinite with both imagination and reality having unknown depths. The universes are massive beyond our imagination and reach even via telescopes and probes. Kudos for this!!

Plz do read and comment my newest poem too

stretching beyond what we can reach....and for me as I age...I feel the reality of life much more clearly, and yet, the fiction part becomes more of a bucket list dream...
I do like this one...fits me like a glove.

it hit home.
Interesting points made here, some of which made me think of Rod Serling's old "Twilight Zone" show. Where does fact end and fiction begin, especially as ongoing discoveries reveal new realities to us? Will the "paranormal" one day become hard science? I think the best policy is to refrain from wedding ourselves to fixed conclusions.

A wonderful thought indeed and so eloquently written my friend. And I am in agreement with your words. It is within these extremes aspiration is born with the possibility of dreams becoming reality. And when they do it makes these words more prescient. Thank you my friend for a wonderful discussion and an eye opening one at that.
