TreeA Poem by R.J Calzonetti (SinisterPotatoe)Particular from the perspective of a tree.Green pine trees glistening with the weight of clustered snow Reach for the heaven’s with their outstretched arms To catch the moon in its embrace I walk through the glade like a distant memory of nightshade I lift my arms like branches and touch clouds And they follow me like a mountain trail The ones who watch every clumsy step in my maleficent repertoire Drunken stumbling over the train tracks of dirt Stalkers of the night sky Pick their target amidst the wilderness I’m game to these other flickers of lives like a tongue of flame licking the moon Like them, I am hunting for answers Do not question me Wolf in sheep’s clothing I am patient yet sickened by this half-eaten mess of a world I must be treated for this disease of humanity I still have Even when we live in a world of animals I am not hungry for death, I am not thirsty for blood My mouth is a dry riverbed My lips are clean You may smile at me Bare your teeth My skin is the bark of your bite If a tree falls in a silent forest does it make a sound? Your sticks and stones may break my bones But you will never cut me down I may disappear within the crowd But I will never be a memory My very home is a living cemetery My voice a halfway house for emissaries My echo of scarecrows hung from telephone lines is a call home My people vicariously roam through the soma of my chromosomes You can bathe in my blood It will not dry your hands Which you have dipped into this river That still runs © 2020 R.J Calzonetti (SinisterPotatoe)Author's Note
