The Peak, The FallA Poem by R.J Calzonetti (SinisterPotatoe)The constant state of failure, flow, and success. And how we are prone to fail through success, and succeed through the learning of our failures. Suffering and happiness are the same problem. You must have a mountain to fall from In order to feel the weight of the world you left behind Come to greet you once more You must have found yourself in a high place once In order to be brought lower by six feet You must have been very close to God To find the need to deal with the devil You must have worn a beautiful façade To face the crowd on the same level You must have felt so high among the clouds To stoop so long and smoke the butts of cigarettes You must have lost so much To gain so little You must have married well If you are left the youngest widow You must have buried hell To watch the heavens’ close their windows You must have carried such emotional baggage That you felt naked as a wolf in sheeps’ clothing You must be so distantly disconnected That the voice of reason in your head, And of conscience are rhyming interwoven You must have climbed so many cliffs That you never learned to fall You must have died so many deaths That you never learned to crawl You must have hiked so many hills That you see the world as flat You took a slice of life Butchered the land for all its fat Those with the highest hopes Are but a shadow of a doubt Tie yourself up by a rope Find your body in the ground Explore the blackest nights And you’ll be whiter than a sheet Remorse for vibrant days When yellow sun will burn in heat If you find yourself a player But think life is not a game Maybe you’ll never have a saviour But you’ll have someone to blame And if you come to hate the outcomes But don’t see how they came to be Then maybe when you’re drowning You’ve forgotten how to breathe And if you want to climb a mountain Or find the bottom of a dream For those of you who’ve fallen Pray for haven on their knees To take your first steps You must walk a lonely road To leave the outstretched nest You must first have had a home For if you take away from this that just a single thing would give Then well, my friend, you’ll never know Just what it means to live © 2020 R.J Calzonetti (SinisterPotatoe)Author's Note
