Once PresentA Poem by R.J Calzonetti (SinisterPotatoe)The inevitable end is just beginning.Once Present
I brought up the past to become the future
Winding spirals of Rorschach lilac aphrodisiac masquerades
Sanguinary amethysts of granite Lazarus pits
Leafy Prometheus seeping dreamy ebony methamphetamine
Blending memories of the deepest green
Hand my heart out on an unpaved street
Open up my cage and set my spirit free
Let my ribs gurgle like a stream
The brooks babbling Avalon
An avalanche of cannabis tarantula amputees
Dancing with praying mantis canopies of gangrene families
Satellites of billowing umbilical willows
Pillows of primrose pinprick gypsies hieroglyphics ricochet eclipse
Enter the peninsula with a halo of entrails derailing marionettes
The satin apparitions of ecclesiastical castaways
Misty rays of seance dawn on auburn Mars
Eviscerate chaos' pawn on andromeda
Tattoo plateaus of rainbow railroads
Gale fairytales wail carols of marigold
Vinyl chimaera chime like a bell in the primordial aurora borealis
Yaldabaoth’s open mouth umbrellas balaclavas
Of Nirvana’s cataclysms risen prism
In euthanasia’s jubilation recuperating oasis of jade hurricanes
Onyx monikers carnival of harmonies embargo reincarnate armadas of staccato
Opal aroma metempsychosis vorpal as the morning clearing into eerie immaterial clergy
Of the burgundy metallurgy of earth upon the serpentine daydream of reality spindle
Like the beautiful sterling silver twirling amaryllis of a ballerina’s widow
Nothing lasts forever
It changes,
Collapsing in on itself
Until it becomes something new
Like the bulb of a flower in the dirt
We are delicate petals on the wind
We are the prickly thorns of a rose
We are an ever-changing garden of Eden
Someday, small men will invent life, be gods
And be the creator of something we too will never understand
Never know, never love.
And we too might discard delicate flower petals
As dust on an aromatic wind
And grow something else in our gardens
Forge new weapons
Plant new seeds
Write new poems
Lose track of time leaving footprints in the sand
And walk our own paths into solitude’s shadow
A desert rose skygazing from the peak of Mount Everest
Screaming psalms from the throat of the world
Rusty saxophones grasping Adam’s apple awhirl
Letting our fingers curl into seashells of a hurricane’s pearl
Metamorphosis
We leave behind the cocoon of a casket,
When the dreamers of metamorphosis
Reimagine sleep
Like the birth of a butterfly
Isn't the end of a man
We stretch our back muscles and shoulder bones
Into wings
And forget how to fly
Kites that sail through the shrapnel wind of an aching ocean’s pavement
Caught in the walking tendrils of tree-limbs
The arms of angels
Like a dusty sidewalk
A cracked mirror
An urn
Life amidst the dusty plains of heaven's memories
A shell of a man
I like to think
