You're Gonna Carry That Weight

You're Gonna Carry That Weight

A Poem by R.J Calzonetti (SinisterPotatoe)
"

Inspired by the animated masterpiece of a show, Cowboy Bebop, and its ending song - See you Space Cowboy

"

When we part ways

I hear you ricochet through my eardrums

Like an echo of a memory

You are still here, and am I listening

The train-tracks are empty rusting in the rain

They mock the hands of time until broken

And isn’t that like you?

My train of thought riding the rails with you?

We may have died

We may have failed

We may never, ever, fade away

There is no love left in the world for you to steal

There are no more cerebral graffitied words for you to erase

Even when the moon cries shooting stars

I hold the future in my hands

And someday you will be a part of it

In a part of me

And I will rip you from my crawlspace heart like an olive branch

Growing into a forest of arteries and veins

Though you were gone so long ago

And I will wait for you

With your locket heart in my hand

We never died

We never failed

But still, we fade away

Although the ending is bittersweet on my tongue

Eventually, it will wear down to dust

And we will return to the earth

Failing together

You cannot escape that darkness

Even with tomorrow morning on your wrists

The cut-scenes of a shattered past and shards of a broken home

You will still bleed

The most wonderful of colours to drown in

Tasting cotton candy clouds

You’ve got a scarf of flowing rainbows...

A rainbow in your hands…

Love never dies

Love never fails

Love never, ever, fades away!

But I am shackled to life

These chains of relationships

Forever bound to crisscross hearts and hope to die

For beautiful people like you

Open my pickled jar of heart’s content

Leftover lullabies, childlike slices of cyanide’s cry

I am rusting, grovelling in the dirt like a flower

I’ve bloomed so many times the colours turns to bleach

But you remain outside my reach

And the preacher watching from bleachers with a bone ukulele

A low hanging moon picked fresh from the sky

And marionettes go about their day

And I collapse under the concrete grey

Love is sunlight

Is the dark sky’s prevailing veils of pale wind sail wails

Love never, ever, has its way

And we parade slow

Like there is a broken rainbow

A ribbon of rainbows

In these shackled hands

I carry the weight of generations faceless

Shadows that stretch themselves into knotted fingers reach from graves

Like a familiar hand on my back

Warmer than a summer day’s rain

There is going to be a rainbow…

In someone else’s hands…

When I dance entangled with chalk figures on the pavement

Before the downpour cleans the colour gray

And the fog covers the plains, the cities, again

A blur that once held our picture frames

Until it too

Fades away

Though we have died

And we have failed

I never wanted to see you fade away

There is no rainbow...

No weaving greaves of a rainbow...

Left for you to dangle from...
