A Poem by R.J Calzonetti (SinisterPotatoe)

Within the banter and ambience

I come with scars and I come with bandages

I come with slang and even ammunition

I come to rock and I come to roll

I come to stumble like a tumbleweed, a bumblebee, fallen snow

I stand tall like a monument

Always honourable but never bottomless

I come with questions on my mind

I come and go just like the tide

And they asked me why

When I withered, I wouldn’t come back

As if everything lasts forever

They must of thought I was a flower

Returning from the earth in the Spring

They must have thought I was eternal

But no, I too, am a subject of time that doesn’t get its own curriculum

I too am the words on a tombstone

That has faded to scratch marks on a blackboard

My chalk outline and sinker deep in the dirt

And no one can teach my pupils of blinking neon signs

Not to see the world for what it is

Temporary

Momentary

Here and eternal only for those who are but a second in a day

And the seconds pass so quickly

Minutemen of hour day and age

Ask yourself; how do they tick?

How does the clockwork (seem to) shackle the hands of time?

Having a date with death

Must have been the time of their lives

Ages hang on a minute

Every free period in time is the end of a sentence

And for the record, swansongs aren’t encores

Everyone has to face the music, eventually

Dancing with death

Well, that’s someone else’s tune

And the pendulum swings on the grandfather clock

Waltzing off with yesterday

Whether or not this is your day

I hope you get all the fixings of your broken pieces

When you meet your maker

And maybe your music box heart will rewind itself encounter-clockwise

Instead of just taking a turn for the worst

But this day and age wasn’t born yesterday

Just ask tommorow
