Summer (and the Wind)

Summer (and the Wind)

A Poem by R.J Calzonetti (SinisterPotatoe)

The summer flowed like an unravelling river

Of billowing scarfs like the wings of open sails

Welcoming balconies evangelion Valkyries of eulogies

The pallet sun painting rainbows over the darkness

The blackest nights swirling spiralling in the depths of the moon

The daily abyss of light sparking the fires of heaven

Given Elysium by the teachings of Prometheus

Ethereal miracles sent from evanescence incandescent

Descendants of hallucinogenic ascension

Renaissance riding across dawn

The raiment’s of Salem’s starry eyes worn by brides

Halos rhyme rising higher than the skyscrapers agathion

God walking apocalypses

In the clockwork ellipsis of neogenesis ticking

The time flying by violin of black ivory lilacs

Of vibrant Mother Gaia

Poltergeists serpentine further than the turning tide of streetlights

The pleasant hand to hold the clouds of shapeless beauty

Wrestling winds on my sun-kissed back cool as the shadowlands

And I listen to the polycrystalline chrysalis rippling eucalyptus

And trees that sway to the terpsichorean dreamers like cedar pixies

Omnipotent equilibrium skimming through the milky way

As the deep heat of transient ambiance iridescent echoes

On the mountaintops’ opera reverberating on the peaks that sleep

Under the molten stars of melted steel hearts forged into sculptures

Of the collective mementos of passing hieroglyphics christen

The altar of green leaves touching percussionists

Ushering nothingness

And so I say

The summer flowered on the lakes

Like a budding waterlily’s guillotine soliloquy

Like a tangled tongue of river ribbon’s

Obsidian tied and twisted with oblivion

Like the heat of the universes making love

And giving new life, and birthing earth’en

Buds of flowers that have yet to grow their petals

Like the summer says to the wind

As the days pass under the hot passion that cannot last forever

He loves me, he loves me not,

But I will be here regardless, every year

Not because I’m committed

But because unrequited or not

I still will always love you

And I want you to know

That I’ll be here, waiting

Under the maple tree where first met

Shaded by alabaster sun

Peaking through the luscious foliage of stars

And our hearts entangled like those branches above our heads

And even when this all blows over, I will never let you go

I will always bloom for you

I know that you will never pick the petals of my heart apart

And that

Is my love alone

Jack, sorry I got sucked into the writing rabbit hole for a couple months. I've missed reading you & this might be the perfect poem to get started on becuz it's got so many of the things I love. I love summer becuz of the air . . . we've got great summer air here on the California coast, I'm always basking in it. I love this poem. I love how you start out in a more conversational way, then thru the middle you slip into your complex wordplay, then at the end you surprise me with one of the sweetest love expressions ever! As a bipolar person, I was always afraid to write something so long that it required multiple sittings, since I would be a completely different person each time I sat down to write & I was embarrassed to see this so evident in my writing stream. Reading you, I've come to embrace that we are allowed to not be consistent (I'm still recovering from 30+ years of technical writing). I think it's really beautiful the way you go into different modes & moods thru-out your message. Anther weird thing I experienced with this phrase: "polycrystalline chrysalis" . . . you have a way of juxtapositioning two words with similar sounds but one being the mirror image of the other, as far as how the sound progression unfolds. I would never say this to anyone else, since people don't get me, as it is . . . but I know you will get this. When I read "polycrystalline chrysalis" it feels like I'm peeling a banana & then the banana gets zipped back up into it's peel, zip . . . zip . . . the two words feel like an unzipping then a zipping (or vice versa), the way the sound & rhythm rolls off the tongue. Well, with 90 read requests, please be patient as I catch up. I remember the last thing I said to anyone at the cafe was to you, I told you I was going to try not to get sucked in. Well, I found out what it feels like to be so solidly sucked in, I completely missed the pandemic! -- the main reason I started writing the book in the first place! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
