Pawn

Pawn

A Poem by R.J Calzonetti (SinisterPotatoe)
"

A pawn is but a piece of what I fully embody. I may be nothing but a weak one. But bring me to the other side, and I'll rival their king.

"

Devil’s nebula tossed away on the sidewalk

Are you anything but an ink stain in a dry rain?

Are you crumbling like paperbound poems

Made tumbleweed on the cold breeze of sinners?

Cockroaches reaping the peace of lonely decay

I pray to the silence of prose ripped from the bones

The skeletons cerebellum telepathy sociopathic

In its rhapsody cardiovascular heartless monster personified

Dine on the midnight sun

The flowers die living as one

Across the chessboard

Reap the next world

I was like you

The sky dressed in blue

The ground bathed in death

The world’s scythe bass clef

The white powdered bone

Covering the flesh tomes

The fumes of this hate

Doomsday’s paperweight

As I wrote history

And spoke the word of god

As if I was a fallen angel

My wings ashen shards

My singsong farce

An infant charred

Forever scarred

Rose a hand at god

Raise the dead like a child

Paster's webs, and Satan’s smile

Both make me shiver in spite

Even darkness can be bright

Every heaven has its night

Even mankind learned to fly

Even God casts a shadow

Peace or gallows, the depths of shallows

All reached through battles

But I’m not here to win your wars

I’m falling apart like I’ve been ripped back together

I’m giving everything I took from you away

Living, even death’s a mortal tool

Coughing breaths an impartial fool

And when I die the day will come

When strangled candles smother suns

And then maybe devil’s seed

Will grow into a poison tree

That I will rip from its roots

Ruthless true bruised by the shrapnel of my youth

I wish I could shatter you like a three-bodied god

And you could know what it’s like to break

Into a fixed tragedy that was better left unwholesome

The fulcrum that made me fall

I remember years that couldn’t be

You’ve taken away from me

My love of them, my final chance

And I will never dance with dead love

On this broken glass happiness

I will never live to rise past this

When my world is just the ashes

How can you burn bright?

Raped by moonlight

I have no need for dawn

I will not falter

Waltzing till I’m gone

Altered wine of the calling spawn

As you carry on strong, and I walk my death sentence

Vengeance of pent up pleasure for penance

Even full of hatreds’ remnants, you cannot truly know

Even a piece of this emptiness has venom

Despair is a respect I will not give you

I will carry on even if I’ll never live

The bones continue, rippling with sinew

I can’t forgive you, flaunting twilight in the dark

My bloodbath has left me clean

Pieces of nightmares are what was once dreams

There is nothing left to be

I want you to carry your own cross

So you may understand crucifixion

Instead of watching cold murder checkmate us

In denial of our possibilities, our heartbroken pieces

I left a long time ago

I’m already gone

But I’ll be there with you

In the end

Author's Note

R.J Calzonetti (SinisterPotatoe)
This poem would be completely different if hadn't been interrupted between the first stanza and the second. I lost the inspiration for a while, and I think it would have been an amazing poem. All I can do is try to make every poem the best I can possibly make it. So I won't let this happen again.

I promise I read every single review, and I generally will reply to them. I look forward to my next review, because it helps me learn. Even if it's just one word, I promise, I will be happy to hear anything you feel needs sharing. Whenever you write on my shortcomings or breakthroughs, or the themes of my poems, or share ideas and friendly criticism, it decides my next poem to an extent. I will listen, learn and be thankful. And 99% of the time, you'll get a reply unless you're trolling me.
