Heart of the City

Heart of the City

A Poem by R.J Calzonetti (SinisterPotatoe)
"

This is my third Sonnet, this one's a Blank Verse Sonnet

"

The graffiti bites at buildings, hungry

The dingy little shacks follow the streets

Seeking to find a stairway to heaven

Aware of their imminent demolition

There is no coming back when your time fades

In the shade of the hot summer sunlight

The cars run through the varicose city

Veins that stretch across a dying bagged growth

Parched clay, crumbling remains stain the lungs

Arrogant, trying to breathe concrete dust

Constructing the destruction of their lives

Only to be ripped apart, the heart heaves

But the cars pulse flows through the still body

The soul of their home lives with or without

I very seldom reply to reviews, but I promise I read EVERY single one. I look forward to my next review because it helps me learn. Even if it's just one word, I promise, I will be ecstatic to have the chance to hear what you have to say. Whenever you write something about my poems, or the themes of my poems, or criticize me it is not in vain. I will listen, learn and be thankful.

You did a nice job describing a worn city that means so much. Our hometowns are amazing to us and have a huge impact on our lives. It doesn't really matter the condition to us, home is home. Well said jack!
