I am Mental Illness

I am Mental Illness

A Poem by R.J Calzonetti (SinisterPotatoe)
"

A quicker poem, just a few words on mental illness, stigma, and change.

"

I am mental illness

I fulfill this need from people who see you as crazy to label you as different and hate your existence

I am depression

Making you forget your profession and lose out on any lessons as you cannot learn to love yourself

I am anxiety

With sobriety I say you lied to me with a straight face, debasing any unity as I lick the tears from the floor in your disgrace

I am prejudice

I said you just don’t deserve the same as me, you don't have a name, who could you be to say your human I don’t see you any differently than an animal

I am sanity

Making you believe that all this profanity in this land could be destroying you, people toy with you, the world is annoyed with you

I am acceptance

With reluctance, I wreck this cage of hate and look fate in the eyes before I bid him goodbye as I fly through your false words

I am heard

And even if you ignore me, you bore me with bad feelings that can’t touch my skin, and I begin to heal as my flesh seals and I am whole again

I am a friend

Eventually, the stigma will come to an end, opinions will bend, and I will send the right message through the hearts of thousands

I am change

And if you’re around then maybe you’ll be human enough to apologize

Author's Note

R.J Calzonetti (SinisterPotatoe)
I very seldom reply to reviews, but I promise I read EVERY single one. I look forward to my next review because it helps me learn. Even if it's just one word, I promise, I will be ecstatic to have the chance to hear what you have to say. Whenever you write something about my poems, or the themes of my poems, or criticize me it is not in vain. I will listen, learn and be thankful.

I really liked the way you personified anxiety, depression etc. This is very creatively written and conveys a nice message to change.

EVERYONE OF US HAS A MENTAL DISORDER OR ILLNESS THAT WE HAVE TO ACCEPT AND COPE WITH. WHAT MATTERS IS THAT LET IT NOT BE A HINDRANCE TO WHAT WE WANT IN LIFE BUT RATHER AN INSPIRATION.
