We Weren't FriendsA Poem by R.J Calzonetti (SinisterPotatoe)I bought the illusion life sold to me. Now I pay for it.We Weren’t Friends Drowning lead Buried wed Burning red Cold as dead Lie in bed It’s in my head Heard you said You were my friend Love hard as diamond, is this the end? Reminds one of timelessness, No rhyme for this You call me a coward But your spinelessness gave me that name, not mine Shame you had to hear it, but it appears that I must be clear with this s**t The sheer hit, a sucker punch to my lips Bruised my mind, chipped my pride, burned my lungs and pierced my eyes with needle lies I feel used, abused inside, beaten With arms open wide you lied to my face Even after I left that place I thought I had an ace up my sleeve; friends Hard to believe I haven’t a card to see But I decked myself up, I had to be strong, you made me I got out of that hell and no longer smell of naivety I noticed that this wasn’t thievery, it seems to be that you never intended to see me as your friend How can I be sad at the end when nothing began? You ran away with my plan to live a life and sang my song But now that it’s over, at least I can enjoy a new start in a distant land to my tune of my own drum No reason to chase deception when it’s already run © 2017 R.J Calzonetti (SinisterPotatoe)Author's Note
