Humanity

Humanity

A Poem by R.J Calzonetti (SinisterPotatoe)
"

An unfinished work I had after experiencing fear, shame, empathy and pain.

"

Loss of humanity is an obscenity

People that ran with me

Now will hang with me

To be forgotten in the madness and hatred

Baptized, drowned in the sadness that’s sacred to our generation

Mental health patients that ration their passion lashing out at others with only sensitivity to themselves

Compassion is no longer the fashion

Cash in the checks you make and build a big cake to hide your regret

Set to forfeit empathy, forget how to love

Look down on others

Push, punch, fight, shove

Hurting each other for no real reason

A lack of humanity

We’re in season for a species-wide treason

Freezing cold in the mold left behind of better times rotting away

Pain that can’t leave and always stays

Any way and every day

Love is as fragile as paper

Ripped, ruined, creased, frayed

I learned to tell people to stay away

Because I may be the most dangerous person in my life

Slicing, severing serving size portions of love

Morsels of emotional for those without fortune

I think everyone’s starving

But some of us are full of s**t

Because I smell hatred coming from their mouths when they yell

I realized I’m not the only person in hell

There isn’t a lotion or gel that can repair the bridges that fell between us

There aren’t any new apps, phones, or computer games that can replace the need for humanity. Love

The insanity that is the 21st century is immensely filled with put downs, broken noses, and profanity

And that’s at best

I haven’t even seen the rest yet and I don’t want to test those open bloody waters

I’d rather totter back into the threat of pain through human interactions, slowly losing traction

And falling down into a deeper part of hell

Because at least I know what that feels like

I very seldom reply to reviews, but I promise I read EVERY single one. I look forward to my next review, because it helps me learn. Even if it's just one word, I promise, I will be ecstatic to have the chance to hear what you have to say. Whenever you write something about my poems, or the themes of my poems, or criticize me it is not in vain. I will listen, learn and be thankful.

WOW, a hard punch to the gut of humanities ever growing frailties. A good punch is another way of delivering a wake up call and I believe one is needed. Mankind evolved to the top of the food-chain but as of late the trend for mental decencies is growing to the point of becoming an evolutionary trend that could not only lower us on the food-chain but eliminate mankind from existence. Nice depth and a great topic, I hope everyone takes the time to read this and hope it gives them pause to think. Standing Ovation Clap! Clap! Clap! Clap! Clap!

Very interesting read, mans inhumanity to man comes across here, maybe in light of the way the worlds going ...sad - there was a programme about violent computer games, they were saying how they make players of these games have a lack of empathy for others - it is a cold world. We just have to try and surround ourselves with people we love and who loves us - I can't be around negative energies at, always a sensitive I have never been able to grow a thicker skin - good work, well done :)

I respect your view and most of the things you wrote, I do agree with you.

''Mental health patients that ration their passion lashing out at others with only sensitivity to themselves''
I don't agree with you on this and I will tell you why.... I have seen many people who suffer alone for far too long. There are bad and good people.Yes, we all make poor choices or do something out of line and blame others, but it's not always because of the mental health issues...is it?

These lines resonates with me:

''Compassion is no longer the fashion.''

''And falling down into a deeper part of hell
Because at least I know what that feels like .''

Again, what I said is my opinion.
Thank you for sharing :)!
