The Poetry SlamA Poem by R.J Calzonetti (SinisterPotatoe)Just a poem that I wrote subliminally, waiting for the next poetry slamI’ve got to go to work tomorrow Borrowing the morals of my father before me I’ll work none stop like him until the morning Scorning the day when I’ll have to move away to another
place to stay I’m twenty, don’t have enough money, so we still share the same house I don’t know what that’s about but I don’t mind I’ll stay until they kick me out I’ve always felt like staying home and writing poems Until I know them well enough to show em’ at the poetry slam The poetry slam Where dreams come true and losers dream Where the crowd is soft and the competitions mean Where sadness and depression are a common theme Seems like the place that poets try their s**t Where some get noticed and others quit And things can get a bit dark When everyone shares their life stories and sparks of creative
poems like art Their wits sharp with their cut marks on their wrists At the poetry slam Where people going
ham with excitement Sharing poems they wrote or heard from others To write what’s meant to share feeling Wheeling and dealing empathy But I’ve got work tomorrow And even though I can borrow the will to keep working I can’t borrow the stage from more successful poets So I work my nine to five Trying to survive the boredom between now and the next slam Because sharing poems that flow like water Spit from the mouths of those who know pain, who’ve seen
