Kin

Kin

A Poem by R.J Calzonetti (SinisterPotatoe)
"

The one good thing about dealing with pain or depression is that you learn things. Like how to help others who are still struggling

"

Death seems attractive

My life is radioactive

Burning beneath the setting sun

I’m slowly scalding everyone

That I ever cared for or loved

We’re being spat on by the lucky above

So I’m gonna take out my umbrella

And pretend that it doesn’t bother me because I’m no Cinderella

I know I'm not alone

At many people, stones are thrown

And after all these cuts I've sewn

I wonder why the same thing still happens to others

Love is something everyone should be granted

A solid place to stand that shouldn’t be slanted

Like an elevator shaft

So find your craft

Create a map

Build yourself a life raft

From the things that keep you afloat

Sail your own boat into the crack of the horizon

And make a comeback

Never lose track of the fact that you can rack up a knack for stacking up your victories

Make up for what you lack with determination to live your life

Be the type of girl or guy

Who can show your strength and try

Even if the tears come out and you’re forced to cry

Say bye bye to the question everyone who feels pain goes through, why

Instead, ask yourself how can I make the most of this life

Do it with a smile

All the while

Laughing at those who stole your happiness

Toss the pain in a pile, sending it out with the trash

And replace your pain with bliss

Realize that your reality can switch at the flick of your finger

If your hands are strong enough

And once you’ve defeated your own sorrow

Borrow the weight of someone else’s world

Lend a shoulder to every boy or girl

So they can go down the same road, and continue the cycle of empathy

Learn to be a love bringer

A joy flinger

A life singer

For those that need your help, and must recover from the sting of depression

Invite them into your life with a helping hand

Heal their souls for every fight they have with aggression

Blow a kiss at despair without a care or a single problem flowing through the air

It’s only fair that you deserve to share happiness with others

Ignore the haters; focus on the lovers and work together to rip down the plaster of hate

Renovate your sanctuary before it’s too late and you have to move to a better place

Become someone who can call out the bullies and b******s

Look for greener, brighter pastures

Block the sun but leave just enough to let the light in

Beat your problems to the ground and win

Wipe the spit from your face and treat your pain

Without letting it bother you keep control of the reins

That drive your life in the right direction

Use your ability to bounce back to lift up people's spirits into perfection

Because everyone who has fought against pain, for themselves or for others, are kin

Sisters, sons, mothers, and brothers

Author's Note

R.J Calzonetti (SinisterPotatoe)
My view is that if you experience something, you can help others who are experiencing something similar. I think that's the case with depression. Apart we are weak, but when we work together our hearts are stronger.

I very seldom reply to reviews, but I promise I read EVERY single one. I look forward to my next review, because it helps me learn. Even if it's just one word, I promise, I will be ecstatic to have the chance to hear what you have to say. Whenever you write something about my poems, or the themes of my poems, or criticize me it is not in vain. I will listen, learn and be thankful.
