Gone and Forgotten

Gone and Forgotten

A Poem by R.J Calzonetti (SinisterPotatoe)
"

A reflection on our lives, our contribution to others, the world we live in, and that we will all someday cease to exist, and not so long after, cease to be remembered.

"

I find my mind searching for reasons for existence

Sitting bored writing alone in my room

I write about resistance with persistence

But my writing is my tomb

Is there no real purpose for living?

In this life that isn’t worth giving

Is a reason to carry on a lie that I’m believing?

Will there be anything relevant after death I’ll be leaving?

Will there be some weight, some reason, some worth, to the life I’ve experienced?

A thousand years in the future, will I be remembered?

Unlike those who died a thousand years ago?

The answer is no

Time thief’s souls and reliefs hearts

Like a sword of forgetfulness never sheathed

Our time will be forgotten, however brief

And you should know sometime after you start living

That eventually you have to stop

You can depend on exercise, sleep, good food, and cheap tricks to fool yourself

But you’ll eventually lose that health

Be it at 13, or 87

Whether you die as you please, or go to heaven

Time will eventually run out

And you, like me will eventually become a memory

Resistance

Persistence

Can only get you so far

And after we’re gone

Eventually many years later the dye of our contribution that stained this world in our colors

Will fade away

And there will be nothing left of our gifts to the world but our remains

The world that we all shared will have moved on

As we will have been forgotten

R.J Calzonetti (SinisterPotatoe)
I hope you enjoy reading this poem, I enjoyed writing it.

I very seldom reply to reviews, but I promise I read EVERY single one. I look forward to my next review, because it helps me learn. Even if it's just one word, I promise, I will be ecstatic to have the chance to hear what you have to say. Whenever you write something about my poems, or the themes of my poems, or criticize me it is not in vain. I will listen, learn and be thankful.

We all leave memories for others. But once we are all gone. There is nothing left to be remembered by.. At least thats what i gathered. Hope i am right. Anyhow an interesting perspective.

This is a very popular prespective for many middle age men feeling their mortality, I remember feeling then sturggeling and failing to put into words what you have successfully done with this poem. Bravo! Clap! Clap! Clap! Clap! Clap!
I did a lot of thinking about this and decided that in a way, it is possible to live forever at least in the memories of others. Your words posted on the internet or cloud could make your memory immortal. Every person you inspire, impress or help adds to the size of the footprint of the memories you leave behind. The longer you live the more you look back on your life's achievements and their effects on life. There will come a time when you will struggle to find reasons to live for, new reasons to stimulate the heart, mind, and soul. Inspiration to ignite the artistic self and feed the need to ones creative outlet.
