In The FieldsA Poem by R.J Calzonetti (SinisterPotatoe)A poem about warIn the fields, broken and battered You will find our shields rusted and shattered Our friends have left us though we carry their hearts After this is all over we’ll try to make a new start From war we are tired worked down to the bone Fighting, hurting, killing, like hearts made of stone In the fields we lived In the fields we died We lost everything in the fields In the fields lie the bodies, underneath ground with white crosses We witnessed small victories but countless more losses Our petty military is nothing but an empire of fear A heartless machine that runs on the blood of ones dear For the peace that you love came a war filled with hate I know from experience that war isn’t so great In the fields we fought In the fields we tried We lie nourishing red poppies in the ground with our blood in the fields Atom bombs dropped will make the world cry We pay for our evil with lives every time From Genghis khan, to Hitler, to Stalin the wars will go on I cannot help but feel that the reasons were wrong Guns fire, swords clash, bombs drop, knives cut, guillotines slice, ropes choke -- The list will go on. And have we really learned anything but to kill everyone? So put down your weapons, it’s time to go home Go back to your loved ones because you’re not alone We know because we ran through these fields We smiled in these fields And now we lie dead in these fields © 2017 R.J Calzonetti (SinisterPotatoe)Author's Note
