Learning Curve

Unique to my total dedication to knowledge.

Few take advantage,

But most let it go to waste.

In spite of the adversities,

Success is all I desire!

Not falling for the bait of lies,

So I follow my heart more often than my eyes.

I have come too far to allow the pirates to retrieve the prize.

Live with hope and faith instead of envy and despise.

I’m full of sorrow when I hear people and nature cry.

With perseverance I try to bring joy,

Though the stigma of non-acceptance thrives

And tries to break me down.

It’s the same nightmare over and over again.

Am I to be haunted by this?

I have been apart of too much tragedy to be polite,

But my soul remains to burn and shine bright!

Lend me your hand please!

I’m not here to harm you...

I like this a lot, Sin! Wrong decisions or wrong opinions, peer pressure... distort the idea of success. Sometimes we lose the reason why we fight to be best at something. But to find something which is more than just materialistic or status quo kind of goal will energise us more we fight, step towards a bigger and better picture. Like you said, faith and hope become the medicine and it becomes more of learning, enjoying than win or loss. A poem, so touching.

I can totally relate to this. My college is all about getting ahead and being the best at everything, no matter what the cost. It makes me so angry, because it breeds students who are willing to step over others to achieve success, instead of helping their coworkers out to create a team that is doing better work overall. In my opinion, there is not a limited amount of success in the world. Just because someone else is successful. doesn't mean that they took an opportunity away from you. Doing honest work and helping other people be their best by contributing your strengths is a way that everyone can be successful. But that's just my opinion. Wow, sorry for going on a mini rant there. My point is, that this poem is full of so much truth, and I think more young people (especially college students) need to absorb this message. Thank you for this.

I'm also in college and see exactly what you speak of.
And it's true, our idea of success isn't the same as another persons idea of success and vice versa.

Sometimes we wish to be understood and is saddening when we feel pain of the world and no-one else seems to let alone feel our own pains...tragedies shape us but also teach us, emotional write :)

They do shape us and teach us plenty if we acknowledge that such tragedies happen for a reason and sometimes for none at all. To gain courage and know we can overcome the next catastrophe is a true blessing.

We are all surrounded, through negativity, it is our destiny to have faith, to destroy the path we are forced to walk along; we must be assertive, we must fight to stay true to ourselves.

I understand the theme represented in your writing; dark forces may try to bring us down, but our inner light will always bring us forward.
